COERR Mae Sot Provided Emergency Relief to Fire Victims in Umpiem Camp

On January 15. 2019, a refugee mother fell asleep without putting out the kitchen fire. This result in a fire breakout in her house where she suffocated, leaving her two sons, aged 8 and 13 to become vulnerable orphans, since their father had passed away long ago.

COERR staff were among several organizations working in Umpiem camp rushed to help the family with emergency supplies.

COERR provided dried foofstuff, such as uht-treated milk, eggs, canned fish, soy protein concentrate; kitchenware, such as cooking pot, plates, bowls, spoons, baskets, water buckets, large basin for washing and detergent; pillows; and some money to subsidize the funeral, etc.

COERR staff followed the children and learned that they had been accepted by neary by temple. As the elder boy is temple-goer so the abbot welcomed them and ordained them so that they were accommodated and well taken care of both physically and spiritually under the moral support and advice of monks. It is practically believed for boys to learn from monks and that the teaching and prayers will heal their mental depression and eventually lead them to recover and can adjust to the community well.
